Broadcast SMS messages can be sent via the communications module. These can be targeted to specific profiles by utilising filters.

SMS credit

To send broadcast SMS messages, you need to ensure your account has sufficient credit. Each SMS of up to 159 characters is a single SMS message. The cost to send a message within Australia is 10c per message, and to New Zealand mobile numbers the cost is 15c per message.

The number of credits you have available is visible on the New Broadcast SMS screen between the filter options and the message editor.

To purchase credit, please log a User Support ticket in the Help Desk advising how much credit you wish to purchase. The credit will be added to your account and included on your monthly licence fee invoice.

Apply filters

First select the filters you wish to apply to the email broadcast. You can filter by a range of system fields and any custom profile fields you have created.

Relationship filter

Click on the Get field at the top of the list of filters to display the dropdown menu.

From the list you can see an option for the Parent and Child of each Profile Relationship you have set up (the name of the Profile Relationship is displayed in square brackets). The Parent for each relationship will always display first.

Select the relevant option to apply the filter.

For example, in the image below if we want to obtain a list of all Employees or Children from the Organisation relationship we would select the [Organisation] Employees of Employers where... option.

Once you are satisfied with your chosen filters, scroll down to enter the message text.

Enter message

Enter your text into the Message field.

Below the field you can see a counter which will tell you how many characters there are in the message, and how many credits the message will use.

Sending messages

Once you are satisfied with your SMS, select the appropriate option in the Action dropdown. The options are:

  • Save SMS, but do not send - This will save your SMS draft but does not save any filters you selected.

  • Save SMS and send - This will send the SMS with the filters you have selected and also save a copy of the SMS for your reference.

  • Send SMS but do not save - This will send the SMS, but a copy will not be saved for your reference.

We generally recommend you use the Save SMS and Send option, so you can refer to the sent email at a later date and duplicate the content if needed.

Once you've selected the appropriate Action click the Save/Send SMS button.

A Profile Interaction will be recorded on the individual profile with the content of the SMS sent.

Sent SMS

The Sent SMS area will display a list of all sent broadcast SMS messages.

From the menu on the left, select Communications > Sent SMS.

From this screen, you can view basic details about the saved/sent SMS.

You can duplicate the contents of a saved/sent SMS by clicking the Actions button and selecting the Copy SMS or Copy SMS & Filter options. This action will take you back to the New Broadcast SMS screen.

The content of the saved/sent SMS will be copied into the Message field. You can then select the relevant SMS filters and send as a new SMS.
